Amendments to the Transportation Law in Abu Dhabi
H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of U.A.E. and in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi has issued a law amending the Law No.4 of the year 2006 regulating the Department of Transport.
The first article of the law added to the existing law, which is a new set of terms and general definitions.
Article 2 of the amendment law made changes to article 2, 3 & 4 of the Law No. 4 of the year 2006. According to the amendment, the Department of Transport will be responsible for the economic supervision and control of the aviation sector, ports & airports, infrastructure, land and marine transport services and general transport as per the legislations prevailing in the emirate and the country.
Article 3 of the amendment law stipulates the responsibility of the Department of Transport in achieving high standards of safety, security, environmental protection, and economic growth with regards to air, sea, and land transport in the emirate.
Article 4 of the amendment law, outlined the prerogatives of the Department of Transport and stipulates them in 22 sections, which includes evolving of the general transport strategy, implementation of the emirate’s air, land & sea transport policy, providing recommendations to the government on setting up corporations in the related sector, recommendations on legislations, privatization and tariffs, cooperation with international maritime organizations, monitoring and control of the shipping movements and container traffic, among others.
